Frequently Asked Questions

How do I shuck an oyster safely?

Hold the oyster in a folded cloth or cut-resistant glove, insert the tip at the hinge, twist to pop it, then slide the blade along the top shell to cut the muscle.

Which pattern should I choose?

New Haven has a curved tip that suits most oysters; Providence has a straight edge that suits small to medium oysters.

Is it sharp?

Oyster knives are designed for prying, not cutting, so the edge is blunt by design.

How do I clean it?

Wash in hot soapy water and dry. Hand washing protects the blade.

Why a Sani-Safe handle?

It is textured for grip when wet and designed to be easy to keep hygienic.
